Kim hit a mid-month solo home run in the second at-bat of the fifth inning, batting eighth and playing third base, against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
After grounding out to shortstop in his first at-bat against right-hander Trevor Williams in the second inning, Kim responded with a home run in the fifth.
Working a two-strike, unfavorable count, Kim lifted Williams’ three-pitch 91.6 mph (147.4 km/h) four-seam fastball over the center field fence. The fastball hit 104.9 mph (168.8 km/h), traveled 405 feet (123.4 meters) and had a 23-degree launch angle. It was his first home run of the season on a fastball, his first solo shot of the season in the chase to make it 3-5.
His fifth home run of the season, 11 days and nine games after his fourth against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 14. It also extended his hitting streak to six games, dating back to April 18 against the Kansas City Royals.
