Japan’s final defeat sees Kim Eun-Joong book a place in the round of 16.
Japan’s fall to third place in their group at the FIFA U-20 World Cup has given South Korea’s Kim Eun-Joong-ho an early ticket to the round of 16.
The Japan U-20s suffered a 1-2 reverse in their final Group C match against Israel at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023 at the Mendoza Stadium in Argentina on Monday (June 28).
The loss drops Japan to third place in Group C with a 1-2 record.
Japan’s upset was good news for Kim Eun-Joong-ho. South Korea, which now has one win and one draw (4 points), will face Gambia at 6 a.m. on Sept. 29.
The top four teams in each group advance to the round of 16, so even if South Korea loses to Zambia and drops to third place, it will still be in the top four of the three teams with more points than Japan.
